The bistro is walk‑in only, so there’s no need to book, simply arrive, find a seat and order at the counter. Everything is laid out to keep things moving comfortably, whether you’ve got time to stay or are just passing through.
From indoor dining and the terrace to Thyme Takeaway at the entrance, there are a few different ways to enjoy the bistro depending on how your day’s shaping up.
Inside the bistro, there’s a constant sense of life and movement. The air carries the smell of food coming together in the kitchen, coffee being prepared behind the counter, and the low hum of conversation across the room.
It’s a sociable space with a steady rhythm throughout the day, tables filling and clearing, staff moving between kitchen and floor, and the sound of people talking, laughing and catching up as they eat. Warm, welcoming and full of atmosphere, it’s a place that feels active and inviting without trying to draw attention to itself.
The Terrace at Thyme Bistro sits right alongside the river, offering a bright, open place to eat with the water running just beside you. There’s space to sit out on the patio when the sun’s out, as well as a covered, heated area that keeps things comfortable when it’s cooler or if you prefer a bit of shade.
With the sound of the river in the background and occasional visits from the local ducks, it’s a setting that feels connected to the surroundings. The terrace is beautifully landscaped too, making it a natural spot for a bit of garden inspiration while you dine.
Well‑behaved dogs are welcome in this area, so it’s a popular choice for walkers, regular visitors and anyone who enjoys eating outdoors with good food, fresh air and a view.
Thyme Takeaway is right at the Garden Centre entrance and is a constant pull throughout the day.
Barista‑made Illy coffee, real dairy ice cream, cakes and cold drinks are all ready to grab, with pup ice cream on hand so dogs don’t miss out either. It’s ideal if you’re starting your visit, heading out along the riverside path, or just want something good to take with you.

Served daily from 2.30pm–4.30pm, afternoon tea at Thyme Bistro is a popular mid‑afternoon choice. Enjoy a selection of freshly made mini sandwiches and cakes, served with your choice of tea or coffee, and enjoy it as part of the easy flow of the bistro.
Inside, there’s plenty of space to settle in amongst the warmth and movement of the kitchen. When the weather’s right, afternoon tea can also be enjoyed outside by the river, where the sound of the stream carries through and the seating feels a little more open to the surroundings. On a good day, you might even find a few feathered visitors passing through, adding to the atmosphere.
