Getting outside in the fresh, crisp air does wonders for our wellbeing, so wrap up well and get out there and enjoy your garden! Here are some of the November jobs you could be doing…

  • Clear leaves
  • Put pots on feet to prevent waterlogging
  • Plant tulip bulbs
  • Half prune roses to prevent wind rock
  • Plant winter bedding
  • Cover newly planted brassicas (bird prevention)
  • Put out bird food
  • Check winter protection – ties etc
  • Prune apple/pear
  • Harvest remaining root crops
  • Remove any heavy snow from branches to avoid breakage
  • Plant trees and shrubs, now is also the time for transplanting before the ground freezes
  • Start looking for and planning your Christmas tree!

May is finally here, and it’s a great time to be out enjoying the fresh air, here is a list of things to be doing in the garden;

  • Plant alpines
  • Plant shrubs and roses
  • Protect wisteria from frost
  • Divide perennials
  • Prune spring flowering shrubs that have flowered
  • Pick rhubarb and then feed
  • Spray peach and nectarine with fungicide to prevent leaf curl
  • Water newly planted crops
  • Prepare ground for beans
  • Pot up baskets and pots and then protect them
  • Harden off tender plants
  • Regularly hoe those pesky weeds
